In this thread I hope we can share techniques for the best buildings, in order to keep all creations on the server uniform and pleasing to the eyes.

Part 1
Castle walls
In this chapter Ill be showing you my technique for interesting castle walls that are easily repeatable with WE.

1.Create the basic wall. The most appropriate material for this is Stone Brick (although Nether Brick can be used for satanic hell castles) Try and make the walls two thick, in order to facilitate step 2:

2.Cut depressions into the wall, to add depth.

3.Add stairs to the top and bottom for sturdy looking bases and the beginnings of crenellations.

4.Introduce a secondary material. This can be anything from wood to sandstone, but for this example I have chosen quartz, because the white contrasts nicely with the dark grey. I have added the quartz stairs into the depressions to make it more interesting to the eye. The same reasoning explains the brick stairs. I have also introduced stripes of cracked brick, to make an 'engraved' look.

5.Experiment with your new material until you have a balance (I usually go for a 30%-70% ratio between quartz and bricks) I just replaced the indent material with column, but the choice is yours.

6.Finally add the proper crenellations. I usually suggest 2 blocks above the top line of the wall. My personal technique is to have a supporting block of the secondary material onto-which you place a stair block of brick.

7. For more detailing you can replace the indents with windows easily.

Part two will be entrances and full windows.

Please post your own ideas and techniques so we can have a mix of the best ideas!
Usually when it comes to walls, I say that depth and color is really what makes a wall interesting. I personally prefer 2-3 layers of depth and 2-3 colors. Cobblestone looks nice with wood (and might look well with the texture pack, I haven't checked it). I also like quartz with hardened clay and stone bricks with hardened clay. Of course, these are personal preferences and different building styles and themes will help with the diversity of each town or kingdom.

Exactly, there are lots of great combinations. The hardest part is keeping a unique style. Im interested in how the desert city is gonna look. Im thinking Sandstone as the main material, and cobble as the secondary.
If I were making a Desert Kingdom, I would have it be sandstone and Nether Quartz as the main combo, and then use the occasional cobble for decor. That's just my personal preference. Another good combo is sandstone and Nether brick. A ton of things look good with sandstone I find.
This is great!
