The minecraft legitimate server has had the same map since November 17th 2011, it has been the same since the official release of minecraft. Now that 1.2 is about to come out, we have an opportunity to start anew, clean up abandoned builds and towns while also making sure that new biomes spawn. There is no alternative in order to get the new biomes. If it comes to pass, we will allow people to spend a little time to say goodbye to the map, or use this mod to download it:

also as they are changing map format with new release, jungles WILL spawn on old maps

I VOTE YES, it is indeed needed, specially if I can find a good jungle tree

jungles in old maps WILL spawn in new chunks, ever since snapshot w7 changed the map format. just tested again with a 1.0 world and found a jungle

Most likely I will reseed the map so jungles will spawn in new chunks. Unless everyone REALLY wants a new map.
