There is no demo, you could watch videos what stuff like that. I think the game is amazing, so much to do, I think it's worth it either way.
I'm on maguuma, with a few on my friends from another VOIP server. We are like second best in the WvW pie chart thing. Transfers are still free and me and a friend can help you run instances or events and give you weapons and money and crafting supplies just PM me on here if you switch over.
EDIT: Maguuma currently number 1 in WvW by about 80k. Just sayin
