looking for a new laptop - Rageguy13 - 05-19-2013 Hi guys, long time no see! Sorry i haven't been around for a while, i've been real busy with school. Anyways, I'm looking for a new laptop and thought you guys might be able to help me out. Obviously, I want to be able to play Minecraft without lag, but I also want to be able to play other games(dayZ, etc.) no problem. I'd like it to be somewhat affordable (+-$800) I don't really want to mess around with bulding a laptop, i'd like it to be all set, (but I do know how to take apart and put one together if necessary) also, i want an hdmi port and a webcam I've been looking at alienware and ASUS, but i'm not really sure. Any help would be great, thanks much. RE: looking for a new laptop - Starkiller666 - 05-19-2013 try msi, only second to razer in gaming laptops, i have an msi which is 3-4 years old and can run crysis 3 at recomended setting brah. RE: looking for a new laptop - Axehacker32 - 05-19-2013 I use an HP Pavilion g6, has 500 Gb of memory, 4 RAM, uses an AMD Vision A4 processor. On Minecraft I can run max settings at 45-65 FPS no problem. I'm not sure about other games though. It only cost around $550, but I'm no expert in this subject. You could likely get much better than this and still be within $800. RE: looking for a new laptop - Starfighterjesus - 05-19-2013 Look on newegg or tigerdirect they have good sales and good deals from time to time for what your probably looking for to get. RE: looking for a new laptop - Eli - 05-19-2013 PM DaBamf AKA Adam, He hooked me up and can help you aswell! You can find him on my steam friendslist. RE: looking for a new laptop - Tai Huu - 05-20-2013 The only thing I worry about laptops is their cooling systems. Since the thing with laptops, even if they contain high-end parts, they are never truly made for gaming despite what they are marketed as. They will lit in heat like a motherfucker, time passes by with dust collecting and at worst it'll get hot enough to burn your leg if the cooling system design was bad in the first place. HP, other than their ultrabooks have been bad to me in the past with general heat problems, and had few of them eventually burn out. Sony and Samsung I generally consider reliable along with Acer and Toshiba when it comes to their bigger laptops, which are very light and run cool for what bulkiness they look. My personal favorite is Lenovo, considering they're basically IBM. I found them to run graphically well, and controllable temperatures under load/stress. And they are generally cheap for what they offer, other than ultrabooks, though my current one is still uber light for a 16" laptop. RE: looking for a new laptop - MP29 - 05-20-2013 I want to be able to play Minecraft without lag, **Go for a 64bit system. but I also want to be able to play other games(dayZ, etc.) no problem. I'd like it to be somewhat affordable (+-$800) **Get a laptop with at least a powerfull graphics card like Gforce or something in that area, 1GB, or more. I don't really want to mess around with bulding a laptop, i'd like it to be all set, (but I do know how to take apart and put one together if necessary) **Never take a laptop apart unless you wanna toss away your garantee for costless repair if it goes bad. also, i want an hdmi port and a webcam **HDMI and a webcam is standard in all laptops nowadays. The cores: Intel I3 sucks, not made for gaming nor other heavy programs. Intel I5 (dual core)is good for gaming and photoshopping Intel I7 (quad core) is only good for you if you want to do video editing. If you dont video edit dont get an I7. waste of money. I got a Acer Intel I5, 8GB internal memory (DDR2/3) , 2GB Geforce Graphics card with turbo up to 3.1 GB, with a 1GB HD. Wide screen (1600x900), with Win8. pretty good laptop for my gaming and photoshop. HP, im not so sure about HP, lenovo is nice too. Try an ASUS. RE: looking for a new laptop - Ackros - 05-20-2013 check these guys out , online config of the base unit , pretty cool http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ or http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk RE: looking for a new laptop - craigpd - 05-20-2013 Stear FAR, FAR, away from AlienWare or CyberPower. With those guys, you just pay for the name and the fancy sticker they put on things. Not to mention +30%-40% to all the components. If you insist on having a laptop. Then gaming on it isn't going to be amazing for the price. This is one of the few things worth calling a 'gaming' laptop: http://goo.gl/WjgvT This is also very good: http://goo.gl/vHm2g MP: I have to disagree with you there. i3's are good for entry level gaming, but now with AMD's APUs out, they aren't worth getting due to the price. i5's, you've got the gist there. i7's are powerhouses. Universal use (save for servers.) But ofcourse there is still the fact that some i5's may beat an i7. Like the i5-3570k, will easily beat an i7-960. Operating system, you MUST get x64 bit, else anything more than 3Gb of RAM will go to waste. Due to x32 bit only being able to handle a max of 3Gb RAM. Really, if you're going to be gaming on this thing, try for 6Gb minimum. OS. I'd recommend going Windows 7 x64 bit..Windows 8 is fine and all if you like using it. But there are almost no drivers out for it right now, making hardware somewhat less effective. Aswell as the fact that SP1 isn't out yet (that I'm aware of). Having a quick browse on Newegg and I found these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834256324R http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131393 (Has very good integrated/dedicated graphics) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314004 (Also VERY good) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834216457 (I would advise going with this one. Has the best processor for the price, aswell as having very good dedicated graphics. Yes it only has 4Gb of RAM, but you can easily buy some new RAM and swap it out if you feel you need more.) RE: looking for a new laptop - MP29 - 05-20-2013 i was told in the store that i3 isnt made for gaming with high level graphics, like dayz or BF. im not a pro in this, i just heard The last one looks pretty good too |
