It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Michael - 02-22-2014 Getting HD errors on this one, latest in a line of shit going wrong this year, Thinking about starting fresh with a new PC. I was looking at this barebones bundle: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/barebones/bb-895908g.html with this graphics card http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdr9270series/r9270gaming2g.html This SSD for my windows install http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/solidstate/120gbto200gb/mz-7te120bw.html and this HD to replace the failing one: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/harddrives-internal/sata2tbto2.5tb/st2000dm001.html Any comments? Suggestions for better performance around the same price points, or cheaper ways of building a similar machine? bearing in mind that all the prices are in £ and cheap American sites often don't work for the UK. (plus there'd be shipping anyway). RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Axehacker32 - 02-22-2014 That actually looks like a very nice rig. The gpu should run Battlefield 4 on ultra about 50 fps, Crysis 3 should run great too. I personally think the cpu is overkill, plus ones that fast get really hot so hopefully that cooler is a good one. Overall if you have the cash go for it I think RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Michael - 02-22-2014 Consoles just entered a new generation, a little overkill at this point probably wont hurt. I was going to wait until DDR4 was out before I upgraded but it looks like now would be a better time. RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Michael - 02-22-2014 Now looking at This barebones http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/barebones/bb-74770.html with this graphics card http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/nvidiageforcegraphicscards/nvidiagtx760series/zt-70401-10p.html RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Videowarrior - 02-22-2014 Waiting for DDR4 is a bad idea, when it comes out its going to require a whole new generation of motherboards, processors, and of course memory. In the beginning stuff like that is going to be around $800 each for the motherboard/processor and the memory is going to be something like $300. RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Michael - 02-22-2014 Yeah I was going to wait a while. Doesn't matter so much now I guess. RE: It's that time again. Intel Core i7-4770k with 16GB of RAM and a GTX 760. (760 performance is around a 670) You can also overclock the the i7 as the processor is the Unlocked K version. This should last you at least 3-4 years even without the processor overclocked. Unfortunately, I can't recommend you any other suggestion except the one you already posted. Since you are in UK it is difficult to find compatible vendors that ship overseas without overcharging on the VAT/Customs Tax from the U.S/Canada. RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Axehacker32 - 02-22-2014 Yeah the i7 would be better so long as you aren't doing anything that requires sheer speed, though you could overclock to a nice 4.5ghz if its a good one. It would also save you a few bucks on power, it needs 84 watts compared to the 225 watts from the FX-9590. For the graphics I would recommend the R9 280X over the 760, but AMD prices are just outrageous. Maybe spend a few extra bucks and get a 770? Really depends on what games you plan to play the most. RE: It's that time again. Input on a new gaming machine anyone? - Oink_mR - 02-23-2014 The 16gb of ram is way overkill for gaming, but a good bundle nonetheless. As axe said, go for a 770 if you can stretch the budget a bit, beautiful card RE: It's that time again.
