If someone joins the server for the first time and starts right off with insulting someone they don't know for no reason, it's apparent that he is there just to cause trouble.
If I had been on that server at that time I would have taken a step further and banned his IP address, not just the player name.
you can find his IP by typing /whois [playername]
This will show the players stats including the IP ther are using.
Then type /banIP followed by the IP number and he will be gone forever from that location.
After banIP, then I would ban the player name so he couldn't reconnect under that name from somewhere else (like you did)
