Build 2?

The name "BUILD 2" makes it seem like a BUILD server.
So people think, "Hurrr it's a build server it says on the server info, imma build my diamond home nao"

I still don't see what Towny is doing that benefits us that regioning can't.

Nothing. It simply automates the process, so that if a reg has played for a while they can start a town, and new players can easily find a protected place to build by looking in towny towns. That's the purpose of towny right? It really doesnt add any new features for us as ops.

As long as regs can join the server they will try to build there own places.
It's extremely heartbreaking and discouraging to see something you put days into raped by an OP simply because it isn't part of an established town.

Close the door and don't let unauthorized players on.

Why not only give regs building rights on plots of land in towns? I have never had towny on my own server, but I believe other servers do what I am suggesting, so why can't we? If we do that, they won't have to worry about their stuff getting destroyed.

Allowing only ops for a while is a good idea, but sooner or later we will need to let regs on and without some kind of protection/rules, they are just gonna build where they want

Going to make this as clear as oink's bald and foolishness is.

Regs will not build anymore cities until the RP is set up completely.
By then we will have rules on how to start a city, however not everybody canjoin and go "IM GONNA MAKE A CITY" NOH, they will be forced to join a nation and a town within the nation.

But the rules of how the RP will work are for later.
For now, we are setting up.
I want to get this done within 1 months time, I feel its possible since I have RDC and full access now I can take all plugin suggestions or opinions and try them.
I also have several competent people who can get things done to work with.

But for now, no more reg cities, that is forbidden.
If a reg joins during set up, they may consider themselves lucky and pick a existing nation and town to join and work there, call it a head start.

If I find anymore cities built by regs I will delete them as I did with several others yesterday.
We cleaned up much of the map back to wilderness.

I mean seriously, diamond block houses? gtfo.
You gotta hold the line somewhere, and the way it was going before, wasn't a line to be held.

Most of you know what build 2 was going to become: an RP server.
After most of our hard work got deleted by Towny, lots of people were confused if the plans to make it an RP server were still on.

Some of the things that annoy me at the moment on build 2:
- People building way over the top things
- Regulars building shitty things everywhere
- Unclear rules
- People building things, next to other people's builds, not asking permission/not cleaning up afterwards

Towny was actually supposed to deal with most of the problems.

Towny solves this by allowing people to build in protected regions.

Well there's 2 problems there and towny would solve one of them, and at least mostly solve the other. I believe the idea was to require that regulars build in towns, created by the towny plugin. This would organize where things were built.
As for building crappy structures, usually these are people who only play for a bit then just leave and never come back. Towny regens things when owners don't pay upkeep(when they abandon it). Again, this would require that people build in towns only.

Towny protects towns automatically, so this wouldn't be a problem


you can probably tell that I like the idea of towny. The one problem you guys had was when it destroyed your towns because you forgot about upkeep. Remember this, or turn it off and it's a great plugin right?

One more suggestion. There either needs to be a rule, or plugins need to be setup to enforce this. Structures should be built only in towns and deleted by ops if they are not in a town.

Towny was broken/bugged, I had enough money and donated to the 'bank' for upkeep, but it didn't help. I don't want towny back because it will only piss people off

Automation isn't good. I personally would prefer to know what town are being built, their size, and not have it grow much.
