The concept isn't anything new, it's just modeled after a book now. I remember on one Minecraft server we once did an event that was sort of a survival/battle/mob spawning event. We were released onto the world to survive. You had the option of staying with a group or going off alone. Admins then TPed around while cloaked and spawned mobs in areas and stuff. If you died, you were teled back to the main map and unable to rejoin. Really fun. Unfortunately the server only did it thrice. I was on for the first two times. both of them had about 40+ people. First time my team and I made a base on a mountain near the start. I got struck by lightning and died early on, but one of my teammates won. The second time it was done on a skylands map. Our team made a base in a hillside on a somewhat big island. After all the others died, there was just me and this other guy left on the team with various other teams and a few loners. My teammate and I then went off to find the end of the skylands. We eventually found normal terrain and in the end, I wound up winning. It was really fun.
