Besides, how can you read any text with all that stuff in the background.

mIKe .. you need a staff of server monitors. So much work for one man.

I like to keep my desktop simple and structured...
If you want to personalize it you should use pictures that dont take up the whole screen but maybe just one side of it.
Also use colors that don't make the shortcuts too hard to identify at first sight.

You have you remember that this is a dedicated server running Windows Server 2008. This is not Windows 7 or Vista computer running Aero. If it had aero you would be seeing alot of system resources being used unnecessary.
