What antivirus, spyware, internet security, combo etc.. are you currently using?
Do you run regular maintenance on your machine? Defrag, Registry, temp files...
I was using Bitdefender Total Security, imo it sucked. I couldn't even access Texas.gov without disabling it. Also really slowed down https connections.
Currently looking for something new. Any recommendations?
I run TuneUp utilities to maintain a clean computer, it optimizes settings, defrags, etc.

I actually don't run any real time scanners. Ill run hitman pro or malwarebytes on occasion to make sure I'm still clean, and then CCleaner to scrub the registry and temp files. Probably not the safest way to go but I can't stand slowing my system down with an AV lol
Adwcleaner is awesome for cleaning out browser junk.

I do sorta the same thing as mike. I just keep Defender up to date constantly, and occasionally use Malwarebytes or AVG just to make sure I don't have anything that Windows can't detect. It's worked well for me so far.
For regular maintenance, I defrag my HDD occasionally, go through all my downloads and crap and delete stuff I no longer need, etc.

I had an anti-virus, but after my HDD wiped upgrading to Windows 8.1 (perks of trying out the preview) I never bothered to reinstall it. Defender + CCleaner is pretty much all I use now

Avast anti virus, comodo firewall. I don't use all of the active shields etc. A decent firewall gives you more control over which programs get to fuck around on the internet. It really annoys me when random shit phones home for no discernible reason.

I do the exact same thing. I hate having Malwarebytes pop up every 2 seconds saying Buy our shit that you can just uninstall and re install every 30 days and have the same thing without paying a dime. I actually like the malwarebytes rootkit a bit more than just regular malwarebytes. But as long as you know what you are installing and constantly check your pc stats for programs running you really shouldnt have a problem. I tell people that and they look at me strange because of all the crap they get on their pc's and im just like you dont know how to use a pc and hit install every time something tells you to.
